Sri Lanka Womens Trip

Today we travelled 220 klm from Negombo to Anuradhapura. En-route we visited Selyn Handicraft and  Textiles. The story is Selyn story in 1991 when Sandra Wanduragala, founder, set out to create a sustainable income source for local female artisans by reviving the dying art of handloom weaving. With just 15 women in her home garage, Selyn was born.
Here we discovered authentic and ethically handcrafted gifts where each piece is made with the utmost care by skilled artisans. Later in the afternoon we visited Mihintale an isolated mountain range towering above north central plateau near the ancient capital Anuradhapura. It is believed by Sri Lankans as the birthplace of Buddhist civilization of Sri Lanka. It is now a major pilgrimage site, and the site of several religious monuments and monastic complex for meditating monks.
