Dear Adventure Travellers,
If you live in Australia like me, you would know we have had some chilly days this Winter! I hope you have been keeping warm, I know I am dreaming of warmer climates, and can not wait to take our next group on our Bali Indulgence Tour at the end of this month.
While I prepare for this trip, I have been thinking about how traveling can be both exhilarating and stressful, especially when it comes to deciding what to pack! Do you find this too?
Many women find this aspect of travel particularly challenging. With years of experience hopping on and off planes, I've perfected my travel essentials to ensure comfort by packing light, and with style!.
I thought you may be interested to know what I have learnt over the years... so here are my 'go-to' essentials:
Dress for Success!
Comfort First: opt for loose-fitting clothes to avoid discomfort during long flights.
Waist Freedom: Avoid tight waistbands. Choose a loose-fitting top so you can go braless, if desired, paired with a jacket or shawl to maintain modesty.
Comfortable Bottoms: Loose trousers or a long skirt and flat shoes are perfect. Wear the same outfit on departure and arrival to save packing space.
Hand Luggage - The Essentials
Spare Clothes: Always pack a set of fresh clothes for unexpected delays.
Warm Socks: Essential for in-flight comfort.
Wet Wipes: Handy for freshening up.
Skincare: Facial cleanser, moisturizing creams, and a spray mist to keep your skin hydrated.
Ear Plugs and iPod: For a peaceful journey.
Eye Mask: To help you sleep.
Empty Water Bottle: Ask a flight attendant to fill it once you're on board.
Hydration Tablets: To stay hydrated.
Toothpaste and Brush: Essential for feeling refreshed before landing.
Medications: Always keep them in your hand luggage.
Documents: Take a photo of your documents and store on your phone
Packing It In
Despite years of travel, perfecting my luggage packing remains a challenge. Here’s what I’ve learned:
Packing Checklist: Use an app like Evernote to create and refine a packing checklist for each trip.
Outfit Planning: Lay out outfits (including jewellery and shoes) and take photos for easy reference.
Bulky Items: Choose versatile items like a single jacket or shawl that can work with multiple outfits.
Shoes: Limit to a couple of pairs that match most outfits.
Space Savers
Jewellery: Pack pieces that can be worn with various outfits and use zip lock bags for storage.
Decant Toiletries: Transfer liquids into smaller containers.
Compact Makeup Storage: Use zip lock bags instead of bulky makeup cases.
Check Hotel Amenities: Ensure the hotel has essentials like a hairdryer.
Vitamin Packing: Only take the required amount for the trip.
Rolling Clothes: Saves space and prevents wrinkles.
Strategic Packing: Place items needed on arrival on top.
Packing Cells: Use see-through zip packing cells for organization.
Special Extras
Scented Candle: For a relaxing ambiance in your accommodation.
Costume Jewellery: Less stressful if lost.
With these tips, packing can become a less stressful, more efficient task - leaving more room for gifts and souvenirs, while looking your best!
